5.8 million people are employed in the IT and telecom industries.
It’s not just the country that is booming, as the number of jobs available to Indians has been increasing rapidly in recent years.
But what does this mean for the country’s jobless population?
A survey conducted by India Today on Monday found that nearly 40 per cent of jobs are now filled by digital natives, and more than half of those jobs involve a technology-related field.
The survey found that over 1.5 million Indians are employed as IT professionals, which is about 14 per cent higher than the number who are employed by professionals in the health and social care fields.
This trend is expected to continue as the country continues to grow and diversify.
The second most popular occupation is in the public sector, with the number nearly doubling to 1.4 million.
This includes public administration, which has seen the number grow by almost 5 per cent since 2014.
The third most popular sector is in agriculture, with over 3.4 per cent employment.
This is also up by more than 5 per and includes farming, which had been the most common occupation in 2015.
